Farmhouse charm

Two styles of kitchen cabinets – one distressed to look antique, the other painted grass green and crisp linen white – are combined with freestanding pieces constructed to look as if they have been added over the years. The 48” Wolf gas range is clad in the warmth of a massive, yet simple, pine mantle hood. The color, style and pattern of the tile backsplash, hand painted by a family friend, is repeated on window valance.

Two island work stations are a chef’s dream come true. One island, complete with 1 ˝” maple butcher block, holds an undermount prep sink, an open book case, an integrated GE stainless microwave, and a 27” Dacor warming drawer with painted panel. The second island features a mixer lift, plus drawers and pull out trays in the base cabinets. This island has two levels, one at 36” for a prep space, and another elevated to 42” that overhangs a seating area for three. Farm house style legs support and compliment this engaging island.

Opposite the second island, a unique pine bonnet-topped cabinet conceals twin Sub Zero refrigerators. A sculpted floral overlay on the bonnet face, distressed and glazed, is one of the focal points of the kitchen. The cabinets are painted with a custom color, and then glazed with a raw umber to soften the appearance of the inset doors. Contrasting porcelain hardware with pewter knobs and pulls, plus a bright white fireclay apron front sink with the period style faucet, really make a statement.

The eight foot high custom hutch with bead board sides accents the opposite wall. Ample drawers and glass-topped doors exquisitely store and showcase the homeowners’ treasures from around the world.

Once a small, cramped space, this new kitchen exudes the warmth and the love of home of this growing family.
