The back wall is centered with a large cherry mantle hood, simple in design, with long arched legs and a basic shape that is echoed in details throughout the room. The arched valance above the smooth top cook top, the corbels below the mantle shelf, the gently turned legs flanking the base cabinet, the cove molding, the arc of the faucets, and the bead detail above the open bookcase are all soft, subtle, but painstakingly planned details that speak quietly to new the space.

Functionality and ease of use abound as well, with a smaller bar sink creating two effective work triangles while maintaining a highly effective “U” shape design. Forty-five inch walkways allow ample room for two cooks, as well as family and friends who regularly participate in meal preparation.

The island is designed to utilize a farmhouse sink, with the dishwasher artfully concealed by a door panel. A warming drawer was installed on the lower side of the island, close to the wall ovens. The island cabinets were first stained a straw color – close to the yellow tone of the heartwood pine plank used on the floor – then painted matte black. A realistic-wear sand through was hand applied to areas of the island, in keeping with the age and authenticity of the farmhouse style. Exposed hinges and hearty pewter hardware add to the simple style.

The Absolute Black Velvet granite countertop on the outer wall of the room contrasts with the island, giving it greater visual impact. A cleft natural stone tile backsplash with organic appeal and coloration creates a fusion of color and materials, and ties all the elements together as silent witness to the life and love of this happy family and friends.
